This course is specifically designed to assist candidates in preparing for the American Board of Surgery General Surgery Certifying Examination. You will learn how to answer oral examination questions by quickly organizing your thoughts for presentation, applying decision-making algorithms, and effectively conveying proper standard-of-care plans with crucial key points and rationale.

During the course, you will review standard-of-care cases covering core and advanced topics based on the 2023-2024 SCORE Curriculum. Each participant will receive a FREE one-on-one private mock oral session with our expert faculty. Our open public sessions allow everyone to engage with the faculty and their peers, recall answers, and explain their decision-making process. Faculty will present cases, ask questions based on the scenario, and then provide performance feedback, allowing you to formulate a systematic plan to stick to. Additional private mock oral sessions are available to help you practice answering questions so you present clearly and focused, building your confidence.

Learning Objetives

At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:
โ€ข Describe preoperative, operative, and postoperative patient care in the principal component areas of general surgery, specifically diseases of the head and neck, breast, skin and soft tissues, alimentary tract, abdomen, vascular system, endocrine system, comprehensive trauma management, and emergency operations and surgical critical care.
โ€ข Demonstrate skill and understanding in diagnosing and managing patients in clinical, surgical case scenarios from all areas of general surgery.
โ€ข Explain non-operative management options for patients on the surgical service, which may or may not require surgical intervention.
โ€ข Demonstrate an understanding of tumor staging and describe the appropriate surgical and/or nonsurgical management required for each stage.
โ€ข Describe any randomly chosen operation from start to finish.
