The Osler Institute recorded its comprehensive August 2026 Live Virtual Cytology Review Course, making the complete program available for convenient online streaming.
The recorded lectures are securely hosted online and may be streamed anywhere you have an internet connection. You can watch or listen using your computer, tablet, or mobile device, allowing you to study at a time and place that works best for you.
The review also includes a downloadable course syllabus corresponding to the video lectures. The syllabus may be used alongside the recorded presentations or independently as a study and clinical reference resource.
This comprehensive review is designed to update your cytopathology knowledge and help prepare you for Cytopathology subspecialty certification and Continuing Certification (CC) examinations. Emphasis is placed on evidence-based practice, board-relevant diagnostic concepts, current standards of care, quality control, and laboratory management.
The course incorporates current diagnostic concepts, testing strategies, and practical approaches intended to strengthen diagnostic and consulting skills. Previous participants have also found the review helpful in identifying areas of weakness that may benefit from additional self-study.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
Describe common types of cytology specimens and appropriate methods for preparing them for evaluation.
Recognize normal cytologic elements and benign reactive processes and distinguish them from abnormal and neoplastic lesions across organ systems.
Apply current consensus terminology and diagnostic criteria for classifying non-neoplastic and neoplastic lesions of each organ system.
Explain the importance of rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) of tissue samples obtained by fine-needle aspiration and its role in reducing repeat procedures, healthcare costs, and patient inconvenience.
Apply increased knowledge of cytopathology in preparation for subspecialty certification and Continuing Certification examinations and in clinical practice.
