Prepare for Your Surgical Oncology Oral Boards with Confidence
The Surgical Oncology Virtual Mock Oral Course provides focused, interactive preparation for the Surgical Oncology oral board examination. The course is designed to reflect the format and pace of the oral exam. Therefore, it gives participants the opportunity to work through realistic clinical scenarios in 30-minute mock oral sessions.
During each session, participants practice organizing their thoughts and communicating clinical reasoning. They also make appropriate diagnostic and management decisions under exam-style conditions. Osler faculty examiners provide individualized feedback, assessment, teaching points, and practical guidance. This helps participants identify areas for improvement and strengthen their oral case presentation skills.
Registration also includes access to pre-recorded one-on-one mock oral sessions featuring individual candidates and Osler faculty. These sessions cover required topic areas and provide additional opportunities to observe case presentations, clinical reasoning, examiner interaction, and faculty feedback.
Registration includes one complimentary private 30-minute virtual mock oral session. Participants may also purchase additional private 30-minute mock oral sessions for further individualized practice and feedback.
The course is conducted through Zoom Cloud Meetings, allowing live audio and video interaction between participants and faculty. We recommend a computer with a stable internet connection, webcam, and microphone. Additionally, the virtual format allows participants to prepare from home or the office. You can do this while benefiting from direct interaction with experienced Osler faculty.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Demonstrate proficiency in the multidisciplinary evaluation and diagnostic workup of patients with complex surgical oncology conditions, including the appropriate use of advanced imaging and diagnostic modalities.
- Formulate comprehensive, multimodal treatment plans incorporating surgical management, systemic therapy, radiation therapy, and other appropriate treatment strategies.
- Assess operative risk and describe appropriate preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative management of patients undergoing complex oncologic procedures.
- Describe the indications, operative principles, and techniques associated with major surgical oncology procedures and oncologic resections.
- Apply appropriate clinical judgment when developing individualized treatment strategies based on disease stage, patient factors, and multidisciplinary considerations.
- Describe the key steps of a randomly selected surgical oncology operation, from patient selection and operative preparation through resection, reconstruction, and closure.
