Learning Objectives At the conclusion of this course each participant will be able to:
  1. Describe the common types of cytology specimens and how to correctly prepare them for evaluation.
  2. Recognize normal elements and benign reactive processes vs. abnormal and neoplastic lesions for each organ system.
  3. Apply current consensus diagnostic terms and criteria for the classification of non-neoplastic and neoplastic lesions of each organ system.
  4. Understand the importance of implementing rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) of tissue samples derived from fine needle aspirations to reducing healthcare costs and patient inconvenience.
  5. Apply increased knowledge of cytopathology to achieve sub-specialty certification or recertification.
